Really Cool Photo

Brian took this really cool photo while we were at the Corn Maze the other day.  It's Sam and Lindsey inside a tunnel slide that went through a haystack.

Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch

We went to a local farm today that does a corn maze every fall.  There were several fun activities including riding a tractor out to a pumpkin patch and getting to pick your own pumpkin. Cindy and Brian, some old friends of mine from Texas who recently moved to the area, joined us.  It's so good being able to rekindle old friendships.

Favorite kid comment for the day was from Lindsey.  She had been feeding a donkey in the petting zoo area then went to pet the donkey.  The donkey must have thought she was still feeding them because the donkey lightly bit Lindsey on the finger.  It wasn't a major injury, but it did draw blood and Lindsey started crying a little.  I said, "That must have smarted!" to which Lindsey retorted, "There was nothing smart about that!"

Sam's Super Soccer Saturday

Pardon the alliteration but I couldn't resist.  Sam scored his first goal today for his soccer team.  He also kept the other team from scoring a goal.  His coach said it was Sam's best game yet.

Oma's Birthday

Yesterday my mother turned 84 so today Lindsey and I helped her celebrate her birthday by taking the train down to Salt Lake City for lunch at her favorite German restaurant and seeing "The Lion King".  It was a great play and a great day altogether.  I can only hope I make it to 84 and am doing as well as her.  In fact, I'm proud to say she's doing great and still very active.  It was such a fun girls day out with 2 of my favorite girls.

Favorite Kid Conversation of the Week

While riding in the car.

Sam:  "I wish I were a baby again."
Lindsey:  "Why?  So you can do wrong things?"
Sam:  "No.  So I could ride in a baby (car) seat again."

I gather from this exchange that Lindsey thinks Carley gets away with far too many "wrong things" just because she's a baby.  Lindsey tends to get upset when I laugh out loud at something she has said unintentionally funny so I had to bite my lip to keep laughing out loud.

Sam's Family Day Dinner

September 17 marked the 3 year anniversary that Sam joined our family.  He's such a beautiful, smart boy growing up so quickly.  I feel so, so fortunate to have him as my son.

We went out to dinner to celebrate at the best Chinese restaurant in our area.  I ordered Peking Duck 2 days beforehand as a special dinner for everyone.  Too bad I was the only one who seemed to enjoy it!  No one else in the family was very impressed.  Lindsey even said in horror, "That's a dead duck!?!" (we might have a vegetarian in the making).  No one went hungry, though, because we also had plenty of rice (Carley's favorite food) and yummy appetizers.  And I had plenty of Peking duck leftovers to take home.

Biking Along the Nature Trail

Sam, Lindsey and I went hike/biking along a nature trail close to our house.  The weather was perfect with just a hint of Autumn in the air.  This was Sam's first time on his new bike that we just had fitted with training wheels.  He did great!  He learned to pedal forward, turn and the all important how to slow down and stop.  By the end he was telling me he could do it by himself without Mama helping and he could.  Lindsey did great too, needing no help from Mama at all.  What a fun ride.
