We've had an old family member visiting us this week, Frankie. My mother's cat, which was formerly our cat, has come for a week long visit while my mom is visiting my brother in Texas. We got Frankie in 2002 as a young cat and he became my mom's about 3 years ago after my father and their two cats all died within a year leaving my mother completely alone in her house. Plus we got 3 young kids and a dog within 3 years. So it seemed to be the right choice for him to move into a home where he would get a lot more attention.
He's a Siamese mix and was named Frankie after Mr. Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. You can't tell from this picture, but he has beautiful blue eyes. He's settled right in like old times, except when all three kids come running after him to pet him. Then he quickly makes a beeline to the basement where he knows he's safe from the thundering herd. So currently we have 3 kids along with a dog, a fish and now temporarily a cat. Hope I don't forget to feed any of them!

Bon Jovi Rocks!
Bon Jovi came to our town this past week and Blain and I went to see them for the first time. We had a blast! I grabbed this video off of youtube and the photographer definitely had a better seat than we did and it's obviously amateur, but you can see how fun this concert was. They put on a great show!

Sammy's Surgery
Sammy had a tube put in one ear this morning and his adenoids removed. It was day surgery and only lasted 30 minutes, but, boy, was he mad at his father and me when he woke up. I guess he hadn't listened when I warned him it would hurt and had just heard the "all the ice cream you can eat" part. I think he blamed us for letting this happen to him. But we were home less than an hour when he forgave us sometime between his second and third bowl of ice cream.

Meet "Fishey"
Lindsey wanted a goldfish for her birthday which is this week, so we went yesterday to the pet store. The nice lady that helped us recommended instead a Betta fish, also known as a Siamese Fighting fish. They need a lot less care than most fish since they don't need a filtration system (they come up to the surface to breathe air) and are a great fish for a beginner.
I asked Lindsey what she was going to name her fish. She came up with "Fishey Lindsey". I guess she wanted the fish named after her. Anyway, we're all calling him Fishey for short.

Drama at the Dentist Part 3 (or Drama at the Dentist AGAIN?!?)
Today it was time for the kids 6 month cleaning and checkup at the dentist. Everything went smoothly up until the very end. Lindsey had been fearful during the cleaning but I got her to cooperate by talking her through it and holding her hands. Then the dentist did his exam, no problems with any of the kids teeth.
He recommended sealant put on Lindsey's 6 year molars. The hygienist said this would take about 15 minutes and she would have to keep her "tongue still", as she put it, so the sealant could dry. I had a bad feeling about this but reluctantly agreed. I guess I should have listened to my gut feeling. They weren't two minutes into painting the sealant on Lindsey's back molars when she started gagging. The hygienist kept saying, "Just breathe through your nose, Sweetie." But a few seconds later Lindsey threw up pretty much all of her peanut butter sandwich lunch. Did you know those suction things they use to vacuum up excess saliva also works on vomit?
Unfortunately when it flowed out of her mouth, most of it got in her hair. Trying to get thrown-up peanut butter out of your daughter's long hair in the bathroom at the dentist, well, let's just say it's not fun, but not as bad as cleaning diarrhea out of your son's shoes in a public restroom. I guess that puts me in the ranks of experienced parents. My kids' bodily fluids no longer bother me that much.
Blain said that when I was in the bathroom with Lindsey, the hygienist apologized and felt really bad. She said she had been doing this for 3 years and had never had a kid vomit before on any kind of procedure. And Lindsey is not a kid to throw up easily which made it even more surprising. This will make going to the dentist next time even more exciting! We just never know what to expect.

Model Train Show
Who thought looking at toy trains could be so fun! Actually quite a few people did, it was surprisingly crowded. I guess Sammy's not the only train buff around.

Last Chance for Sledding
Spring is right around the corner and the snow is almost melted down in the valley. So we took the kids to a good sledding hill at our local park for a last chance to sled this winter. There wasn't a lot of snow left to sled on but it was icey so they were still able to get some good speed going to make for a thrilling ride.

Skating Lessons
Lindsey started a six week "Learn to Skate" program last week at our local skating rink. Today was her second lesson. She's so cute to watch as she scoots back and forth across the rink. She was pretty caution tonight but she fell a lot less than last week. They even had the kids skating backwards which was basically just wiggling going backwards but it worked. Surprisingly she skated faster backwards than forwards and she said that was her favorite part. As long as she's having fun and getting exercise, it's all good.
